Hello again! I’m Roxanne, the “Rox” in Pen, Seb, & Rox. Shorts season is a upon us and boy has it been the right weather for them. I’m melting! This time around my post will be a quickie since I am covering just one pair of shorts.
Who am I sewing for this round?
Age – 12 months old
Waist – 18.5″
Hips – 19″
Inseam – 9.5″
Height – 30″
Pen’s stats have not changed noticeably from when I measured her for the leggings round. I suspect this means a growth spurt soon! Eek!
The pattern in brief:
– Sizes 12m-14y
– Waist has an elastic back and flat front
– Available in a ladies version if you want a pair for yourself or need teen sizing
– Has a free expansion available with two alternative front panel options
Sewing for someone in diapers? I’ve found the bum room is less than other bottoms I’ve made in the same size range but it works out fine for me since Pen is in disposable diapers and has a lean bottom.
What size I made:
Size: 12 months
I have to confess that I’m totally enamored by the look of these shorts. Both the cut and the scallops make the shorts girly without being over-the-top about it. A free expansion includes a single scallop and tab options. Style is not the only positive thing about this pattern, putting the shorts together is a lot simpler than it looks with the hardest part being stitching the scallops neatly. The tutorial is well illustrated and I love the leg assembly technique used. With a bermuda length option included in the recent(ish) release of the ladies version of Clemence, I really wish that the girls pattern also had the longer length option. Since the girls version came out before the ladies I can’t fault the pattern too much but I’d like to think the we could see another expansion in the future…
