Kids Shorts Review on | MadeByJaime

Hi again! I’m Jaime from MadeByJaime. I don’t know about where you are, but here in central CA, it’s HOT. I mean over 100 degrees F hot, so shorts are an absolute essential. I was happy to pull out some shorts patterns from my pattern stash to show off their features and help you decide what works best for you!

Bubble Shorts by Peek A Boo Pattern Shop

The Bubble Shorts pattern was my inaugural dip into the PDF pattern world a few years ago. Who can resist their cuteness? It has been a few years since I made them so I reprinted and cut a new pair. The sizing is from 3 months to 8 years – I cut a size 2T width with a 4T length for my 4 year old daughter, according to her measurements and the included size chart.

PAB Bubble Shorts | MadeByJaime | ThePatternExam.comThe Bubble shorts have a flat front with back elastic waistband, faux fly, optional pockets, then the legs are gathered & attached to leg bands. I appreciated that there was a leg band pattern piece but the pattern instructions encourage you to try the band on your child’s leg to adjust for comfort. My daughter is very concerned with things being “tight” so after trying the band on her, I added an inch to the bands to avoid any issues. The fit was great! Please click the Pattern Checklist below to see all the pattern features.

Coachella Shorts by Striped Swallow Designs

In full disclosure, I was a tester for the kids Coachella shorts when they were originally released. The fit that first time around seemed fine to me, but this time around they came in a little small. I am not sure what the difference was, but I know for sure that this time I chose the size by her measurements. As noted in the paragraphs above, she is slim for her age and tall so maybe I would have had better luck choosing her RTW size.

Coachella Shorts | MadeByJaime | ThePatternExam.comThe shorts style is a lot of fun and though there is only one style option, the look of these shorts can be changed simply by changing up the trim and fabric combinations. There are instructions for no trim, bias tape trim and lace/pompom trim. I chose a giant rick rack and followed the lace/pompom instructions without problem. This pattern is layered so you can choose to print only the size(s) you need. Additionally, in the digital file, the table of contents are linked so you can easily and quickly get to the different parts of the file (size charts, instructions, pattern, etc.) Please click the Pattern Checklist below to see all the pattern features.

Coastal Craze Baggies by Peek A Boo Pattern Shop

These shorts are speeeeeeedy! They can be made using wovens or knits and feature a knit waistband. There are several options regarding the waistband too! You can do a drawstring, an elastic/drawstring combo or the regular elastic option. There are front slant pockets and an optional back pocket. The sizing is from 6 months to 12 years so you can make them every summer for years to come. The length is great, if anything maybe a little long, but nothing that can’t be fixed by cutting off an inch or so to get it where you like it.

PAB Coastal Craze Baggies | MadeByJaime | ThePatternExam.comI cut a size 7. The fit is slim, which works great for us. Please see the Pattern Checklist below to see all the pattern features!

I hope this shed some light on some patterns you were eyeing and/or hoping to make this summer! Enjoy the rest of the reviews and let us know if there is any other information that would help you in making your pattern choices!
